Judicial dossier concerning Zhang Chunshan (張春善, also known as 張根), a 35-year-old man prosecuted in Shanghai in 1944 in connection with the suicide of his wife, Chen Miaozhen (陳妙珍). Although the archival case cover classifies the matter broadly as 殺人 (killing), the first-instance judgment specifically found Zhang guilty of 教唆他人使之自殺 (inciting another person to commit suicide) and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment. The dossier documents the circumstances surrounding Chen Miaozhen's death following serious domestic conflict, together with the investigation of Zhang's responsibility for encouraging or inducing her suicide. It contains interrogations of the accused and witnesses, prosecutorial documents, evidentiary records, first-instance proceedings and judgment, appeal documentation, court summonses and release or custody forms.
